Nimble
A mobile and detachable shopping cart solution for organizing groceries by category — improving convenience, accessibility, and space efficiency.
Design Brief
Managing mixed groceries, especially loose and delicate items, can be challenging during shopping. Nimble is a mobile and detachable shopping solution that helps users organize groceries by category, improving convenience, accessibility, and space efficiency.
Through context study at supermarkets and user research, key pain points were identified: rearranging items inside the cart is inconvenient; delicate items are often damaged during shopping; transferring items into bags after billing is time-consuming; existing shopping carts occupy excessive space.
Research & Problem
Context studies at supermarkets revealed critical friction points in the everyday shopping experience.
Inconvenient Rearrangement
Rearranging items inside a traditional cart is cumbersome — items shift during movement, making organization impossible until checkout.
Delicate Item Damage
Fruits, vegetables, and fragile packaging are often crushed under heavier items when placed together in a single compartment.
Time-Consuming Transfer
Transferring items from cart to bags after billing adds unnecessary time to the checkout process, creating queues.
Excessive Space Usage
Existing shopping carts occupy disproportionate floor space, making navigation through aisles difficult during peak hours.
Design Solution
The design brief: To design a mobile and detachable shopping solution that enables customers to efficiently organize and segregate vegetables based on their characteristics during supermarket visits.
Mobility
Smooth 360° wheel movement for easy navigation through crowded aisles
Detachability
Individual compartments detach from the main frame for easy bagging
Segregation
Category-based organization keeps delicate items separate from heavy ones
Space Efficiency
Compact nested design reduces footprint when not in use
Durability
Robust materials designed for repeated daily use in retail environments
User-Friendly
Intuitive interaction requiring no learning curve for first-time users
Final Design

Prototype & Testing
A functional prototype was built and tested to validate the detachable mechanism, ergonomic handling, and overall shopping experience.
